Warri is a main oil city in Delta State, Nigeria. Estimated population of the city is around a million people within the Warri metropolitan area. The people of Warri are mostly the Urhobos, Itsekiris, and Ijaws, but other ethnic groups also live within the city. Warri is largely Christian, as is most of Southern Nigeria. The city is known nationwide for its unique “Pidgin English”. Warri city contains a Refinery situated at Ekpan while mass of other international and local Oil companies operating in Nigeria have their operational offices in this city. Also one of the nation’s main sea ports is situated in warri. The Warri Naval Base is situated along the bank of Warri River and the Effurun Army Base is just outside the city.

The city contains a large stadium with a capacity of 20,000. This stadium has the honor of hosting two editions of the African Women Football Championship in 2002 and 2006 respectively. The city has a team playing in the Nigerian Premiership football league. The city has a state operated television and radio station namely Delta Rainbow Television Edjeba Warri and Delta State Radio Warri while Jeremi Fm station (JFm) which is a Private Radio station, also operates within the city.

The economic base of the city lies in the presence of a refinery and other Oil and Gas companies. The city also contains a steel company, Delta Steel Company, which is situated in Ovwian-Aladja area of Udu.Delta Steel Company has been bought over by Global Steel Company. The Beta Glass Plant situated in Ughelli which is rich in silica and silicates raw materials required for manufacture of Glass, Ceramics and Cement. It also has a Power Holding Company which is one of Nigeria’s Power Generating Stations is situated at Ughelli which is just 15 minutes away by car. There are number of investment opportunities in the tourism sector within warri and close by towns. Abraka is just one of those towns which are favorite destination for domestic and international tourists. It is just 30 minutes away from Warri by car. The Abraka beach is known for its natural flowing spring water, and has sports recreational facilities for outdoor activities like canoeing, fishing, swimming, barbecue, and picnicking.
