Minneapolis-Saint Paul is the most crowded metropolitan area in the state of Minnesota, United States, and consists of 186 cities and townships. Built along the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers, the area is also famous as Twin Cities for its two biggest cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the former the bigger and the latter the state capital.

This region is the portion of larger U.S. Census division called Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI, and the country’s 16th-biggest municipal area consists of eleven counties in Minnesota and two counties in Wisconsin. This bigger area in turn is enclosed in the combined statistical area called Minneapolis-St. Paul-St. Cloud, MN-WI with a populace of 3.5 million people, ranked the 13th most densely inhabited in the U.S. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul MSA is the 35th biggest in the Americas.
