Salvador da Bahia is a city on the northeast shore of Brazil and the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Salvador is recognized as Brazil’s capital of happiness due to its nice population and several popular outdoor parties, including its street carnival. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the ancient cities in the country and in the New World. It was previously known as Bahia. Salvador is the third most heavily populated Brazilian city, after Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and it is the ninth most densely inhabited city in Latin America.
The city of Salvador is famous for its food, music and architecture, and its urban area is the most rich in Brazil’s Northeast, the poorest area of Brazil. Over 80% of the population of urban region of Salvador are having Black ancestry, the African influence in a lot of cultural features of the city makes it the center of Afro-Brazilian culture and this represents curious situation in which African-associated cultural practices are celebrated, but Black Bahians because of their low income are distant from most of the city life entertainments. Pelourinho is the historical center of Salvador. It is famous for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
Salvador is situated on a small, roughly triangular peninsula that splits the Todos Santos Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Salvador is a main export center, situated at the center of the Reconcavo Baiano, a rich agricultural and industrial area surrounding the northern portion of coastal Bahia. The local ground is diverse ranging from flat to rolling to hills and low mountains.
