Rajshahi city is the divisional headquarter of Rajshahi division and one of the six main cities of Bangladesh. The weather of Rajshahi is usually marked with a typically tropical monsoon climate with elevated temperature, substantial humidity and reasonable precipitation. The hot season starts early in March and continues till mid July. The maximum average temperature around 32 °C to 36 °C during the months of April, May, June and July and the minimum average temperature is around 7 °C to 16 °C (45–61°F). The highest precipitation is seen during the months of monsoon. The city municipal committee is responsible for all the maintenance work related to Rajshahi city. Deputy Commissioner is the administrative chief of Rajshahi District, and a Divisional Commissioner, administrative chief of Rajshahi Division. They have their offices placed here, which functions as part of the government administrative set up.
Bogra is a northern district in the Rajshahi division. It is known as the gateway to the north Bengal. It is one of the main industrial cities where a lot of small and mid sized industries are located. Dinajpur is a district is situated in the Northern part of the Rajshahi Division. The economy of Dinajpur is mainly dependent on agricultural production. Dinajpur is known for its rice production. Dinajpur is also famous for its wheat production. Gaibandha is a district is also a part of the Rajshahi Division. It has the total area of 2179.27 square kilometers. It is surrounded by Kurigram and Rangpur to the northern side, Bogra District to the southern side, Dinajpur and Rangpur districts to the western side, and Jamalpur and Kurigram districts, and the Brahmaputra River to the eastern side. Jaipurhat is a district also a part of the Rajshahi Division in Northern Bangladesh.
The population of Rajshahi is around 0.4 million and it contains number of universities, medical college, education board, cadet college, cantonment and an airport. Although it contains a lot of educational institutions and government offices but its population is still less than other big cities of Bangladesh. Rajshahi is called a student city. And it is one of our four metropolitan cities.
