Malaysia is situated in Southeastern Asia. It consists of the Malaysian Peninsula and the States of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo. The Peninsula is bounded by Thailand from the northern side, from the island of Singapore in the southern side. Singapore is linked to Johor, in Malaysia, by a boardwalk. KualaLumpur is the capital of Malaysia.

Johoris Peninsular is located in the southernmost side of Malaysia. It is linked to Singapore by a bridge. The state capital is Johor Bahru. It is home to worlds famous golf courses and shopping establishments. It is also very famous for its historical buildings and impressive architecture. Outside Melaka town, there are some very beautiful beaches, two excellent islands with resorts and a golf course.


Negeri Sembilan is a small but attractive state with a rich culture and record. Major hotels and resorts can be found in Seremban and Port Dickson while smaller towns offer accommodation. Penang received its name from the Pinang, or Betel Nut tree, once commonly found on the island. Kelantan has a nice economy dominated by rice, rubber and tobacco. Pahang is the third largest state in Malaysia. Perak means silver in Malay. The name comes most likely from the silvery color of tin. Terengganu’s main industry now is petroleum and gas.

Malaysia has a humid climate with temperatures averaging 30°C, though it is cold in the higher areas. The main change in seasons is due to monsoons that bring heavy rains. Boat trips to the islands do not run during the height of the monsoon. The best time to visit Malaysia is between April and October.

Mosques show the Islamic heritage in one predominantly famous mosque, now more than two hundred years old and constructed in hardwood, without the use of nails, by craftsmen from Java. There are also many Buddhist and Hindu temples, some of them built in Malaysia’s limestone caves.

The language of Malaysia is Bahasa Melayu. Chinese dialects and Tamil are spoken too. English is the language of business. Malaysia’s multicultural society is reflected in its religious communities: Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, a minority of Sikhs and some Christians. The peninsula of Malaysia, like Singapore, was important historically as a meeting place for traders between China and India. Islam was brought to the area by Arab and Indian traders in the thirteenth century.
