Long Beach is a big city situated in southern California, USA, on the Pacific shore. It is located in Los Angeles County; about 20 miles (32 km) south of city center Los Angeles. The harbor of Long Beach is one of the world’s biggest shipping ports. The city also has a big oil industry; oil is present underground and offshore. It also contains headquarters for companies like Epson America, Molina Healthcare, and SCAN Health Plan. Long Beach has developed with the establishment of high-technology and aerospace industries in the region. Long Beach is situated at 33°47′ north, 118°10′ west, about 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. The total area of the city is around 170.6 km². 130.6 km² of it is land and 40.0 km² of it is water.

Long Beach’s geographic location directly east of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, paired with its typically south facing shoreline consequences in the community having considerably diverse climate patterns than coastal communities to the northern and southern side. Precipitation occurs mainly during the winter months. Storms can bring serious precipitation, but Long Beach gets less precipitation than locations adjoining to the San Gabriel or San Bernardino Mountains supplementary inland, whose precipitation is improved by aerographic lift.
