Jaipur is also known as the Pink City. It is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Previously during the British rule it was the capital of the Jaipur. The city has a populace of around 6 million. Jaipur is the first city that is properly planned. It is situated in the semi-desert areas of Rajasthan. The fundamental structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. Today, Jaipur is the main business hub with all attributes of a metropolitan city. The total area of the city is around 1766 km2 where as 725 km2 in its area is surrounded by walls. It is marked as one of the fastest developing cities of the world. The population of the city is over 7 million. The city has wide and regular streets making it remarkable among pre-modern cities of India. These broad streets divide the city into six sectors of around 111 ft wide. Each sector is further subdivided by network of streets.

The main rivers flowing through the Jaipur district are Banas and Banganga. The ground water resources are around 28.65 million cubic meters in the district. Although severe droughts are exceptional but poor water management and exploitation of groundwater with extensive tube-well systems destroyed agriculture in some areas.

Jaipur has a semi dry weather receiving over 650 millimeters of precipitation every year but the majority of rain takes place in the monsoon months between the month of June and September. Temperatures remain comparatively high all through the year, with the summer months of April to early July having average daily temperatures of around 30 °C. In the period of monsoon there are regular, heavy precipitation and thunderstorms, but flooding is not frequent. The winter months of November to February are moderate and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 15–18 °C and with little or no moisture. There are however occasional cold waves that lead to temperatures close to freezing.
