Iran is located in southwestern Asia. Iran is bordered on the North by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and the Caspian Sea, on the eastern side by Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the southern side by the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf, on the western side by Iraq, and on the northwestern side by Turkey, with a total land boundary length of 5,440 km. Iran’s capital city is Tehran which is situated in the northwestern part of the country.
Iran has a moderate kind of climate, with arctic winters and warm summers widespread across the land. On the plateau, the annual precipitation does not exceed 30 cm (12 in), with the deserts and the Persian Gulf littoral receiving less than 13 cm (5 in). Snow falls a lot on the mountain peaks and is the main source of water for irrigation in spring and early summer. Clear days are the rule, for the skies are cloudless more than half the days of each year. The seasons change suddenly. The Tehran temperature ranges from -3° C (27° F ), the average low, to an average high of 7° C (45° F ) in January, and from an average minimum of 22° C (72° F ) to an average maximum of 37° C (99° F ) in July.
The main source of income is oil and gas exports which constituted 70% of government revenue and 80% of export earnings(2008). A unique feature of Iran’s economy is the large size of the religious foundations, or Bonyads, whose combined budgets are said to make up as much as half that of the central government. The economy has seen only modest development. Iran’s educated population, economic inefficiency, and insufficient foreign and domestic investment have forced number of Iranians to seek employment overseas, resulting in significant “brain drain”. Main industries are artisan goods, petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals, car manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, home appliances, telecoms, pharmaceuticals, textiles, minerals, metallurgy, armaments, electronics, energy, construction and construction materials. Main partners are China, Japan, Turkey, Italy, South Korea, Germany, Russia and France.
Fars is situated in the southern side of Iran. It neighbours Bushehr Province to the western side, Hormozgan Province to the southern side, Kerman and Yazd provinces to the eastern side, Isfahan province to the northern side and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province to the northwestern side. Ardabil is a historical city in north-west of Iran. The province of Ardabil has been blessed with impressive natural beauty and many tourist attractions. Iran’s official language is Farsi, which is also known as Persian. The vast majority of Iranians are Shi’ah Muslim.
