Indore is the biggest city and business capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is also referred by the name “The City of Holkars” because the city was planed by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, a renowned queen of India. Previously it was a main business centre, the city and its nearby towns Mhow, Pithampur, Dhar and Dewas has build a solid industrial base. During the period of liberalization Indore had face several privatization initiatives like country’s first private telephone network. Despite of such industrial activity, the city still has its reflection of past in itself. This city is also known as ‘Mini Mumbai’, because of the similar lifestyles of the residents of this city. Indore is situated in the western area of Madhya Pradesh, and is located near the edge of the country. The average elevation of Indore is 1 meter above the sea level. It is situated on an elevated plain, with the Yadri range to the southern side. Indore is stretched to Dewas on one side to Mhow on other side which is makes its width around 65 km.


The city of Indore is basically the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh with a large amount of trade coming from all sizes manufacturing industries. These industries include Automobile, Pharmaceutical Petroleum Refineries and Textile. Indore’s main sources of income are those from Textile, Education and metal works industries. Main industrial areas around the city are Pithampur Special Economic Zone and the Sanwer Industrial, which have about 2000 factories of different sizes and productivity.

The city has various cultures. People from all over the country have moves to the heart of Madhya Pradesh for their livelihood, education and a pleasant and peaceful culture. People living here are very peace loving and maintains the harmony by intermixing and enjoying their life, irrespective of castes or region and by respecting the people from other religions.
