 Esmeraldas is a coastal city in northwestern Ecuador. It is the administrative center of the Esmeraldas Canton and the capital of the Esmeraldas Province. The city contains an international sea port and a small airport. The city’situated main is the seaport of northwestern Ecuador. It is located on the Pacific shore in front of the Esmeraldas River. The city is the main trading center for the area’s agricultural and lumber resources but it is not growing in the sectors of industry. It contains the majority of the Afro-Ecuadorian population. It is the terminus of the 313-mile (504-km) Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline from the oil fields in northeastern Ecuador.

The port of the city is vital for the northern parts of the country. This port is mainly exporting the wood and astilla. This port also exports banana and other agricultural products. The Balao port is the oil port of Ecuador. The city of Esmeraldas beach is beautiful and weekends with culinary attention, nightlife and quite fun. The soil of the area is suitable for the production of of rice, maize, African Palm, albaca and a variety of tropical fruits. The major forest species are chanul, raft, laurel, sande, guayacan and tangare. Cattle and pig rearing is also contributing in the economy of the city. Marine resources of fish (corvina, snapper, lisa, tuna, etc.) are abundant and varied constituting in vital category of its economy.

The city contains the manufacturing, timber, chemicals and the oil industry. Now days, the refinery is equipped with electronic instrumentation and automated system known as system control distributed Master (DCS), which was created for the control and monitoring of oil refining processes automatically. This system covers number of areas like generation steam and electric-discharge of filtered, clarified, and pre-listening water for River.  This water is used for human consumption and also for the generation of steam to be used in 4 turbo generators enabling power generation (30 MW) in order to produce the oil according to the requirement of the market.
