El Paso is a city in and the administrative center of El Paso County, Texas, United States. It is located on the western side of Texas. The total population of the city is around 613,910, making it the sixth-biggest city in Texas and the 22nd biggest city in the United States. The urban area of the city covers all of El Paso County. The population of the El Paso County is around 742,062. El Paso is located on the Rio Grande, across the border from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. The two cities create a combined international metropolitan area, which is known as El Paso-Juarez, with Juarez being the considerably larger of the two. The city of El Paso is situated at 31°47′25″N 106°25′24″W / 31.79028°N 106.42333°W . It is located at the junction of three states (Texas, New Mexico, and Chihuahua) and two countries (the USA and Mexico).
Until the last decade of twentieth century it was the home to El Paso Natural Gas Company. Farah Clothing Company was also located in El Paso until 1998 when Farah along with other clothing manufacturing companies like Levi’s, transferred their industries, in order to get cheaper labor. Previously it was recognized as the capital of blue jeans because of its weekly production of 2 million pairs of jeans from different jean companies in El Paso. Now the only remaining companies in the clothing industry are Wrangler and a smaller company by the name of Border Apparel.
Still El Paso is the Operational Headquarters of Helen of Troy Limited, a NASDAQ listed company which is working on different health care products under several labels such as OXO, Dr. Scholls, Vidal Sassoon, Sunbeam, among others. El Paso contains the University of Texas at El Paso and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso. Fort Bliss, one of the biggest military complexes of the United States Army, located in this city.
