Delaware is a U.S. state situated on the Atlantic Coast in the Mid-Atlantic area of the United States. The name comes from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, a British nobleman and Virginia’s first colonial governor, after whom Cape Henlopen was originally named. Delaware is situated in the northeastern section of the Delmarva Peninsula and is the second smallest state in region. Estimates in 2007 rank the populace of Delaware as 45th in the nation, but 6th in inhabitants mass, with more than 60% of the populace in New Castle region. Delaware is separated into three regions. From north to south, these three regions are New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. While the southern two regions have in the past been mostly agricultural, the New Castle region has been more developed. The state ranks second in inhabitant scientists and engineers as a percentage of the employees and numeral patents issued to companies or individuals per 1,000 workers. The history of the state’s financial and business development is directly with the impact of the Du Pont family, founders and scions of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, one of the world’s largest chemical companies.
Delaware is 96 miles stretched and ranges from 9 miles to 35 miles across, totaling 1,954 square miles, making it the second nominal state in the United States after Rhode Island. Delaware is surrounded to the northern side by Pennsylvania; to the eastern side by the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, New Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean; and to the western side and southern side by Maryland. Small portions of Delaware are also located on the eastern side of the Delaware River sharing land borders with New Jersey. The state of Delaware, together with the Eastern coast regions of Maryland and two counties of Virginia, form the Delmarva Peninsula, which extends down the Mid-Atlantic shore.
Delaware’s agricultural production contains poultry, nursery stock, soybeans, dairy products and corn. Its industrial production include chemical products, automobiles, processed foods, paper products, and rubber and plastic products. Delaware’s economy generally outperforms the national economy of the United States.
