Chittagong is the second biggest city of Bangladesh and a one of the busiest international seaport. It is also an ideal holiday spot. It is surrounded by green mountains and thick planted forests. Its broad brown sandy beaches and pleasant climate attracts a lot of holiday-markers annually. It is the country’s main port and is the major site for all types of industries. Bangladesh’s oil refinery and the only steel mill are also present in Chittagong. Languages spoken in this region are Bangla and English.

The Qadam Mubarak Mosque and Shahi Jama-e-Masjid are two of the most inspiring buildings in the city. It has also a wonderful Ethnological Museum in the Modern City which has attractive displays on Bangladesh’s tribal peoples. There are wonderful sights and pleasant breezes from Fairy Hill in the British City in the north-western region of the city. The valleys of the Hill Tracts are surrounded by deep planted forests. The natural forests can be seen in the Rain-khyong valleys of the Bandarban district. This region provides valuable wood used for various purposes, like Karnaphuli Paper Mills and the Rayon Mills located at Chandraghona. These giant logs of wood are being carried to the mills with the help of tamed elephants.

The population of the Hill Tracts is largely tribal. The life style of the tribes is really fascinating. Majority of the tribes living in this area are Buddhists and the rest are Hindus, Christians and Animists. Despite the difference of religion, elements of cooperation and love are strongly seen in their resources, ceremonies and everyday life. The tribes are matriarchal. The women-folk are more hard working as compare to males and they are the major productive force.

There are three major seasons in this region, the dry season, which is fairly cool, sunny and dry, the pre-monsoon season, which is very hot and sunny with infrequent rains, and the rainy season, which is hot, cloudy and humid.
