The State of Arizona is a state situated in the southwestern area of the United States. The capital and biggest city is Phoenix. The second major city is Tucson, followed in size by the four Phoenix municipal area cities of Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, and Scottsdale. Arizona was the 48th and last of the adjacent states. Arizona is renowned for its desert type of weather, extremely hot summers and gentle winters but the high country in the northern side contains pine forests and mountain ranges with cooler conditions than the lower deserts. Population of the state indicates that Arizona was the fastest growing state in the United States, exceeding the growth of the previous leader, Nevada, and is at present the second. Arizona has had more female governors than any other U.S. state.


Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It boundaries New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, touches Colorado, and has a 389-mile international boundary with the states of Sonora and Baja California in Mexico. It is the biggest surrounded by land US State by population. Grand Canyon and many other national forests, parks, monuments, and Indian reservations are situated in the state. Arizona is situated in the western United States as one of the Four Corners states. Arizona is the sixth biggest state in area, after New Mexico and before Nevada. Of the state’s 113,998 square miles, approximately 15% is privately owned. The left over area is public forest and park land, state trust land and Native American reservations.

Arizona is best recognized for its desert countryside, which is rich in plants such as the cactus. It is also identified for its weather, which presents extremely hot summers and mild winters. Less well recognized is the pine-covered high land of the Colorado Plateau in the north-central section of the state. It is the 27th in the country and just shy of the US national median. Arizona’s economy relied on the “Five C’s”: copper, cotton, cattle, citrus, and climate. At one point Arizona was the largest producer of cotton in the country. Copper is still extensively mined from many expansive open-pit and underground mines, accounting for two-thirds of the nation’s output.
