This is the sixth biggest city in India, is situated in Gujarat State, in the western side of India. It is located on the bank Sabarmati River. Ahmedabad is located 440 km north of Mumbai. Ahmedabad is recognized for its association with Mahatma Gandhi and loaded culture. Ahmedabad is the home to numerous cotton and textile mills hence called the textile city of India. Ahmedabad is a wonderful mixture of traditionalism and modern culture with a number of mosques, temples, factories and high-rise offices.
The city contains a fine mixture of Hindu and Islamic styles of architecture. It was recognized as the base camp for the Indian freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi had built the Sabarmati Ashram on the outer edge of the city. During the freedom struggle, this city was transformed in to the central hub of the movement. It is the industrial capital of the Gujarat. The Ahmedabad city is the largest producer of denim production in the world. Several interesting museums are also present in Ahmedabad. A lot of buildings in Ahmedabad bear the signature of world’s well known architects like Louis Khan, Doshi, Le Corbusier and Correa. Ahmedabad is well-known for its Makar Sankranti, celebrated in the month of January with kite flying, folk music and dance. It is one of the liveliest cities in India.
Ahmedabad has a very hot and humid weather. The season of winter is very cool and pleasant while summers are very dry, hot and the temperature can be as high as 46°C. It has a very good precipitation in the period of monsoon. It contains a domestic as well as an international airport and a number of airlines are there to connect Ahmedabad with Chennai, Calcutta, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, along with international flights to number of overseas destinations. Ahmedabad is connected by rail to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Udaipur, Kolkata, Chennai, other main cities and towns of India.
