Agra is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The city was mentioned in the old sacred book of Hindus named Mahabharata where it was referred as Agrevaṇa meaning the border of the forest. The founding of the city is associated to Raja Badal Singh in 1475, the fort of Badalgarh, stood near the site of the present Fort but in 11th century Persian poet Masud Saad Salman illustrates a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra. It got the status of a capital in the Mughal Empire from 1526 to 1658 and remains a main tourist destination because of number of splendid Mughal-era buildings, most particularly the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all three of these are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The city also has a considerable industrial foundation. A lot of manufacturing plants and industry associated to wholesale markets are vital part of Agra.
